Maggie L. Walker Governor's School Places Third at the We the People National Finals

After securing their spot as the Virginia We the People State Champion,
Maggie L. Walker Governor's School represented the Commonwealth of
Virginia at the 2010 We the People National Finals in Washington, D.C.
on April 24-26, 2010, placing third in the nation.  Teams from all 50
states, the District of Columbia, and the Northern Mariana Islands
competed in this annual event.  During the first two-days of
competition, Maggie Walker earned enough points to continue to the final
top-ten round of competition, where they competed in the Senate
Committee Hearing Rooms on Capitol Hill.  During the three days of
competition, students demonstrated their knowledge of the Constitution
before simulated congressional committees made up of constitutional
scholars, lawyers, journalists, state Supreme Court justices, and public
officials.

Held annually, the We the People National Finals is the
culminating event of the yearlong program.  Teams that win their state
competition in the fall are eligible to compete in April with a new set
of questions at a higher level of difficulty.  Maggie Walker has
competed in the National Finals every year since 1998, and has placed in the Top
Ten since 1999.
