It is obvious that
the students gain a great deal of knowledge about the principles of the U.S. government through their participation in We the People, but even more heartening may be the
demonstrated skills of poised presentation, thoughtful discussion, and respectful disagreement.

We the People Teacher

We the People: The Citizen and the Constitution" is a nationally acclaimed government and civics curriculum that helps students understand the history and principles of our Constitution and Bill of Rights. The program is available to elementary, middle and high school students and teachers from public and private schools anywhere in the United States.

Teachers interested in the We the People material are eligible to attend free professional development seminars, where they will learn about implementing We the People and the Simulated Congressional Hearing in the classroom. The Simulated Congressional Hearing serves as an authentic assessment tool used with the We the People curriculum. In addition, teachers who attend professional development seminars are eligible to receive a free classroom set of We the People textbooks and a teacher's edition.

We the People is administered nationally by the Center for Civic Education and the Center for the Constitution at James Madison's Montpelier is proud to be the host of the program in Virginia.
