Justice System and Judges
Many of America's constitutional debates are resolved in the court room, particularly at the state and national level. In partnership with the Center for Civic Education, the Center for the Constitution hosts seminars for state supreme court justices from around the nation. The participants revisit the origins of the Constitution by studying its development and implementation; and they examine its evolution, from the addition of the Bill of Rights and other amendments to different approaches to interpretation of the Constitution. In Center for the Constitution programs, justices also explore the concept of federalism, and in particular, how their own state's constitution interacts with the U.S. Constitution. Additional programs will be developed for federal judges, prosecutors, and public defenders.
