2009 We the People Middle School State Competition
Virginia Attorney General Bob McDonnell addressed the Commonwealth's next generation of voters at the second annual Middle School "We the People" State Competition on Saturday, January 10, 2009, at Frank W. Cox High School in Virginia Beach. Hosted by The Center for the Constitution at James Madison's Montpelier, the event engaged nearly 200 students from six Virginia middle schools who fielded questions on the Bill of Rights and the Constitution posed by a panel of judges in a mock Congressional hearing.
At the 2009 "We the People" Middle School State Competition, eight teams of eighth grade students presented four minutes of testimony and answered six minutes of questions about historical, political, and constitutional issues. The competition judges assessed the initial testimony of the students and probed their knowledge during a question and answer period.
Kemps Landing Magnet School of Virginia Beach took the state title for the second year in a row. Rodney E. Thompson Middle School of Stafford took second and Princess Anne Middle School of Virginia Beach took third.
